Summer + Grace

Summer. It's finally here.

In my former life (before kids), days of sitting on the beach and soaking up the sun and waves provided great relaxation and rejuvenation. Now I spend my time at the beach with a mind full of questions: Did I put enough sunscreen on the kids? Was that a shark fin I just saw in the water? Should I have put on the mom skirt bathing suit today? Did I pack the first aid kit? Where is his hat? Is she too far out in the water? I wonder how much sand he's actually eaten? Do I know what to do if someone gets a jellyfish sting?

I wouldn't change my life right now for a minute.

But, I'll be honest. Summer is hard. Days are long. My kids wake up at 6:30 asking, "What are we going to do today, Mom?" Pool days, VBS, dance camps, preschool camps, spending time with friends, vacations ... oh, and did I mention we are getting a dog next week?

When I started this blog I made it my goal to write one post per week. In the midst of other writing assignments and just living life with two younger kids, I thought this was a reasonable goal for myself.

I've found, though, that this summer, my thoughts have turned towards being frustrated with myself for not writing here. And friends, that is absolutely ridiculous. When writing is no longer fun and it becomes something to check off my to-do list, I'm not doing it for the right reasons.

So, I've decided to give myself grace and take the summer off.

I can't wait until fall when I start back up and have stories to tell.

In the meantime, enjoy your summer. Eat some watermelon. Stop by that produce stand and get some fresh tomatoes. Dip your toes in the sand. Take a swim in the local public pool. Make some homemade ice cream. Invite friends over for a cookout. Take that day trip you've been putting off. Enjoy the sun!

Happy Summer!
