Anticipation

January 1, 2018

The conversation (as best as I can remember) went something like this on Christmas morning:

Ande: “Mom, Santa came and brought us presents!”

Me: “Ande, it’s 2:15 in the morning.”

Ande: “But, Mom, Santa came.

Me: “Ande, we can’t get up and look at presents. It’s 2:15 am.”

Ande: “Mom, Santa came and brought us presents!”

Me: “I know he did, but you are going to have to go back to bed. It’s in the middle of the night.”

Ande: “But, Mom, I just can’t.”

The morning she had waited for had finally arrived. Time didn’t matter. The anticipation of opening her gifts was too much for her to handle.

Too often I fail to anticipate big things. My expectations are limited, and my prayers are things I know God can do. What would happen if I began to pray bigger prayers, to anticipate God working in bigger ways, and to expect God to reveal Himself mightier and more powerful than before? What would happen if I stopped limiting what I think He will do and start trusting Him for what He says He can do?

Today brings us a new year. Many hate to see 2017 pass; a lot are ready to forget the past 365 days and start afresh. However you feel about the ringing in of a new year, I pray you are meeting it head on with anticipation.

What am I anticipating in 2018?

Laughter. Love. Tears. Joy. Sadness. Friendship. (I’m anticipating the good, but I also know there will be trials, as well.)

Hope. Peace. Forgiveness. Brokenness. Worship.

Healing. Waiting. Revelation. Encouragement. Restoration.

Salvation. Redemption. Answered prayers.

Oh, and I also anticipate Santa coming after 2:15 am this year.

What are you anticipating in 2018? I pray you are meeting the year with excitement and expectancy. As you walk through this new year, remember that Jesus is Lord, He is on His throne, and He has each of us in the palm of His hand.
